PI (polyimide) high-temperature tape is based on a polyimide film-produced by combining pyromellitic dianhydride and diaminodiphenyl ether in a highly polar solvent followed by imidization. It is coated on one or both sides with either silicone or silicone-free adhesive to form the finished tape. Typically around 0.045mm thick, it is available in various colors such as amber, black, and green. It offers an adhesion strength of approximately 450–700g per 25mm, a temperature resistance range of roughly -10°C to 290°C, and a peel strength of about 3–6N. It is characterized by high-temperature resistance, electrical insulation, radiation resistance, and resistance to acids and alkalis. Kehongjian PI tape leaves no adhesive residue upon removal and causes no damage to the protected electronic components.

PI high-temperature tape is commonly used for electronic products requiring protection during processes involving temperatures around 260°C; it is among the most heat-resistant types of high-temperature tapes available. Common applications include masking "gold fingers" during wave soldering or reflow soldering of PCBs, as well as protection during solder pot and hot-air leveling processes. It is also used for insulation in lithium batteries and motors, edge wrapping for battery cells, and binding transformer coils; in these cases, the tape should be stored in a dry, room-temperature environment and kept away from contact with other liquids.

While PI high-temperature tape can also be used for temporary protection during semiconductor processes such as painting and electroplating, PET high-temperature tape is often sufficient for these tasks and comes at a lower cost. Therefore, the most appropriate high-temperature tape should be selected based on the specific application environment.
